Scrapbooking for Beginners

If you are like me when I started scrapbooking, I was completely overwhelmed by the volume of materials available for scrapbookers. There are literally scores of stores that only sell scrapbooking materials. I would have never imagined a store just for scrapbookers. What a concept. Scrapbooks have come a long way from our first attempts. They were generally childish and tacky. I know mine was. My worst mistake was in using Elmer’s glue to attach my Yankee baseball cards to my book. Yes, I ruined a mint Mickey Mantle card with Elmer’s glue. Mia Culpa.

Times and changed. Technology is everywhere and scrapbooking has become a booming business. If you are just starting out, start small or at least attempt to start small. Choose a party you are giving and buy a little kit. Use the kit to guide you into the niceties of the modern scrapbook. A great idea is an anniversary book. Buy the kit, take pictures of any anniversary, yours or maybe your parents, and start the process. Follow the kit’s instruction and add your own personal touches. This is the perfect anniversary present. Other important occasions could be your theme. It’s entirely up to you. The scrapping kits is perfect for scrapbooking beginners.

Many people find journaling a problem, especially beginners. What to say. What to say. If you are doing a party scrapbook, take around a tape recorder and record comments by the party goers. They will be a great help in the journaling process. Use your computer to make the journal articles pretty and expressive. You will want to buy special cardstock paper for journaling. Sticking a piece of computer paper on your books will take away from your artistic point of view. The kit will probably include paper just for journaling.

Now it’s time to put the scrapbook together. Spread your pictures out on the table. Next put your journal articles on the table. Try to match the two putting everything in a thematic or chronological order. Whatever you decide is great.

Now you are ready to start. The first page should be spectacular. This page makes everyone want to keep looking through the book. Including a really nice picture, the essential contents of the book, and pretty art work are great ways to start.

After the title page, many people enjoy making a table of contents. Of course, they are the organized ones. A table of contents is a great addition if you are so inclined. Next start putting the book together. This is the truly fun part. Add your creativity to make the book personal and fun. Don’t worry about being perfect. No book is worth stressing out to make very little item perfect. You are creating a memory that will be a priceless memento for all time. Sharing this joy will make everyone so happy. Be proud; you are now an experienced scrapbooker. You are ready for the next step. You are ready to go out on your own without a kit. You are armed with your creativity and experience. Enjoy.
